Accusations of excessive force against San Bernardino police now made after a violent arrest was captured on camera inside a local grocery store.

Several officers from the San Bernardino Police Department are under scrutiny for allegations of excessive force and police brutality.

The family of the arrested man, Travon Attison, is now expressing deep concerns for his safety as he remains in custody.

The Incident at Food 4 Less

The incident occurred at the Food 4 Less grocery store in San Bernardino on Thursday.

According to family members, it all began when Attison, 36, and his wife entered the store.

An employee greeted Attison with the phrase “Whassup, cuz,” which he found offensive, believing it stereotyped him as a gang member.

His family reported that he demanded the employee be removed from the store floor.

Attison’s wife recounted that he became visibly upset and raised his voice.

After Attison refused to comply with requests from a security guard to calm down, the guard called the police for assistance.

Controversial Video Footage

Cell phone footage of the arrest shows two officers taking Attison to the ground, followed by two additional officers joining in to help subdue him.

Disturbingly, one officer is seen throwing multiple punches at Attison while he is restrained by the other officers.

A family member voiced their disbelief, stating, “There was no reason for Attison’s arrest, let alone the way it happened.”

The family is demanding that the officer seen throwing punches be removed from patrol duty, citing concerns over his temperament.

You’re supposed to come and de-escalate the situation,” they added.

Police Department’s Response

In a statement to FOX 11, the San Bernardino Police Department did not comment directly on the officers’ actions depicted in the video.

However, they confirmed that Attison was arrested and charged with felony assault and resisting an officer, noting that he was already on parole and had a lengthy criminal record.

Despite this, Attison’s family maintains that the violent nature of his arrest was unwarranted.

One relative lamented, “We came for hot links and hot dogs, and we got police brutality,” highlighting their frustration and dismay over the incident.
