4, including 1 teen are now dead in a Central Valley car crash, CHP has confirmed after receiving a call of the incident on State Route 165 at Greenway Avenue.
A devastating car accident in California’s Central Valley on Sunday morning has resulted in the deaths of at least four individuals, including a 16-year-old girl.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, as authorities work to piece together the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
Details of the Accident
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) received a call reporting the crash at approximately 9:25 a.m. on State Route 165 at Greenway Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers found two vehicles severely damaged and six individuals involved in the incident, including two teenagers and two young adults.
Tragically, a 16-year-old girl from Turlock, who was a passenger in one of the vehicles, succumbed to her injuries at Doctors Medical Center.
Preliminary investigations indicate that a 22-year-old man from Modesto was driving a 2008 Infiniti sedan at a high speed northbound on SR-165 when he collided with the left side of a 2023 Jeep SUV, which was traveling westbound on Greenway Avenue.
Sequence of Events
According to officials, the Jeep was entering the intersection directly in front of the Infiniti when the collision occurred.
The driver of the Infiniti was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident also claimed the lives of the 54-year-old male driver and his 45-year-old female passenger, both from Turlock, who were traveling in the Jeep.
The teenage girl who lost her life was sitting in the left rear seat of the Jeep.
In addition to these fatalities, two other passengers in the Jeep—a 19-year-old woman and a 14-year-old boy, also from Turlock—sustained serious injuries and were transported to local trauma centers for medical attention.
Fortunately, all occupants of the Jeep were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash, which may have mitigated the severity of their injuries.
Investigation and Road Closures
Authorities are currently investigating the crash to determine whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the tragic incident.
As part of the investigation, the collision led to a temporary closure of State Route 165 between Lander Avenue and Simmons Avenue, impacting traffic in the area.
Community Impact
This heartbreaking event has left the Turlock community in mourning, as families and friends grapple with the loss of loved ones.
The CHP is urging anyone with information about the crash to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
As the community comes to terms with this tragedy, the importance of road safety and the potential consequences of reckless driving are brought to the forefront.
The loss of a young life and the injuries sustained by others serve as a sobering reminder of the fragility of life on the road.
