A man from Southern California is now entangled in a serious legal battle after being charged with murder following the tragic death of his girlfriend in a Thousand Oaks hotel.
The incident has raised significant concern and garnered media attention, highlighting the severity of domestic violence issues.
Arrest and Charges
The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office has identified the accused as 31-year-old Uriel Gamboa, a resident of Ventura County.
On January 14, Gamboa was formally arraigned in court, facing multiple serious charges.
These include murder, along with special allegations for the use of a deadly weapon, as well as committing a crime that resulted in great bodily injury and extreme violence.
The Incident Unfolds
The events leading to the charges began on January 6, when Gamboa contacted authorities himself, revealing that he had killed his girlfriend.
In a distressed state, he indicated that he was “feeling suicidal,” prompting law enforcement’s immediate response.
According to court documents, this phone call was pivotal in the investigation.
Upon their arrival at the Palm Garden Hotel shortly before 11 p.m., deputies discovered the lifeless body of 24-year-old Aliya Pitts.
Reports from KTLA indicate that she had sustained both sharp and blunt force injuries, along with signs suggesting probable strangulation. The circumstances surrounding her death paint a grim picture of violence.
Details of the Alleged Attack
Investigations revealed that Gamboa allegedly used “broken bottle/shards of glass” as the weapon in this fatal assault.
This horrifying detail underscores the brutality of the crime and highlights the urgent need for addressing issues of domestic violence.
Aftermath and Current Status
Following the incident, Gamboa was found with self-inflicted injuries, leading to his hospitalization.
He was taken into custody on January 10 after receiving medical treatment.
Currently, he is being held without bail as he awaits his next court appearance.
Gamboa’s arraignment is scheduled for February 10 at the Ventura County Superior Court, where further proceedings will determine the direction of this serious case.
